Ermengarde de Beaumont, queen of Scots (d.1233)

Biography
Ermengarde de Beaumont was the daughter of Richard, vicomte de Beaumont-sur-Sarthe, son of Constance, and illegitimate daughter of King Henry I of England. On 5 September 1186 at Woodstock, she was married to William I, king of Scots, and may have been just at the canonical age of twelve years for marriage at the time. With King William she had four children: Margaret (b. 1187×95, who married Hubert de Burgh, justiciar of England and later earl of Kent), Isabella (who married Roger Bigod, earl of Norfolk), Alexander (the future king, b. 24 Aug. 1198) and Marjorie (married to Gilbert Marshal, earl of Pembroke) With her son, she founded Balmerino Abbey. She died on 11 February 1233 and was buried at Balmerino. W.W. Scott, 'Ermengarde', ODNB, xviii, 505-06; [http://www.oxforddnb.com/view/article/49356]
