Edgar, king of Scots (d.1107)

Biography
Edgar was probably the fourth son of Malcolm III (d. 1093) and his second wife, Margaret (d. 1093). He was the brother of Edward (d. 1093), Edmund, Alexander (d. 1124), David (d. 1153), Matilda, queen of Henry I, and Mary, who married Eustace, count of Boulogne. He had probably fled to England after the death of his parents and the succession of his uncle, Donald III. After Donald's restoration in 1094, Edgar probably fled again to England. In 1097, with the help of his maternal uncle, Edgar Ætheling, Donald was defeated in battle and Edgar established as king. Edgar died at Edinburgh in 1107, either on 8 or 15 January and was buried in Dunfermline Abbey. He was succeeded by his brother, Alexander. A.A.M.
