Saer de Quincy, earl of Winchester (d.1219)

Biography
Saer de Quincy was the son of Robert de Quincy (d.1200) and his wife, Orabile, daughter of Ness, son of William, lord of Leuchars (FIF). Around 1190, he married Margaret (d.1235), daughter of Robert de Breteuil, earl of Leicester (d.1190). They had the following sons: Robert (d.1217), who married Hawise, daughter of Hugh, earl of Chester, with whom he had one daughter, Margaret; Roger (d.1264), who would inherit the earldom of Winchester; another Robert, who married Helen, daughter of Llewelyn ab Iorwerth, prince of Gwynedd (d.1240) and widow of John the Scot, earl of Chester and Huntingdon; and three daughters, Hawise, who married Hugh de Vere, earl of Oxford; Arabella, who married Sir Richard de Harcourt; and Lora, who married William de Valognes (d.1219). He should not be confused with Saer de Quincy, his uncle (d.1190), who appears in England between 1160 and 1192, or his son, Saer (d.×1192), upon whose death the English estates passed to his uncle, Robert (d.1200), father of the present Saer. In 1197 this Saer appeared with Richard I of England in France, and accompanied William the Lion's army to Normandy in 1202. He was appointed joint castellan with Robert Fitzwalter of Vaudreuil in Normandy. Saer's brother-in-law, Robert de Breteuil, earl of Leicester, died in 1204, and his inheritance was split between his sisters, Amice, wife of Simon de Montfort (d.by 1188), and Margaret, Saer's wife. Saer was thus created earl of Winchester (on 13 March 1207), while Montfort was given the title of earl of Leicester. He also held lands in Perthshire, Fife and Lothian. He went to the Holy Land in 1219 and died at Damietta, Egypt, on 3 November 1219. He was buried at Acre and his organs were cremated and returned to England, being buried in Garendon Abbey. http://www.oxforddnb.com/view/article/22967
