Robert Bruce, son of King Robert I (illeg.)

Biography: Robert Bruce was the illegitimate son of Robert I. His mother and date of birth are unknown. An active figure by 1321-2 when he received the lands of Sprouston and the major border lordship of Liddesdale, the latter forfeited by William Soulis because of his part in the 1320 conspiracy against Robert’s father Robert I. On 6 August 1332 Bruce was part of the Scottish army that faced Edward Balliol’s invasion force at Dupplin Moor. In advance of the battle Robert accused the then Scottish Guardian, his cousin Thomas, earl of Mar, of entertaining pro-Balliol and pro-English sympathies.
