Robert, king of Scots, has given the burgesses of his burgh of Ayr five pennylands of his land of Alloway, Carton, and Carcluie (AYR), in feu and heritage, in one free barony, by the same bounds it had in the time of King Alexander III, for ten pounds of silver, 100s at Pentecost and 100s on Martinmas, making suit of court in presence of his sheriff of Ayr, and providing, for the royal visits to Ayr, litter for hall and chamber and firewood for hall, chamber and kitchen. He also grants the same burgesses quittance to the inhabitants of this land from prise, tallage, carriage and contribution except when the burgesses pay these, and that they will not have to make army service unless the burgesses are summoned to do so. He also grants that the burgesses may have their gild [merchant].
