Document 1/53/17 (RRS, v, no. 13)
- Description
- Robert, king of Scots, states that because John of Pollock exists and resides outside his faith and devotion, through obedience to his enemy, and in the attack of the king’s kingdom, he takes sasine of all his property, movable and immovable, wherever it may be found throughout his kingdom, for his work. And also as a result of his escheat of the right to livery, the king conveyed and conferred by the present [letters] to the abbot and convent of Arbroath John’s goods found on Arbroath's lands or tenements, along with everything the monks owed to John through agreement or contract, in compensation for the property loss which they sustained because of the war of Scotland. The king ordains that obligations or agreements which John has or had with Arbroath concerning the property, are from now on void and empty. The king orders his chancellor to make a new charter recording his grant and donation and strengthen it with the seal of the king.
