Document 1/53/394 (RRS, v, no. 346)
- Description
- Robert, king of Scots, has inspected and truly understood a charter of the religious men the canons of Holy Rood of Edinburgh over that demitting at feuferme which Alexander [II], king of Scots, his predecessor, made to them of the land of Callendar (STL) in the sheriffdom of Stirling and found it neither erased, cancelled or damaged. [document quoted in full = see RRS, iii, no. 203; H1/7/210] King Robert grants and confirms this charter. And from the special devotion that he has for God, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the Holy Cross, and all the saints, he gives all the aforesaid land in pure and perpetual alms, rendering annually to Robert Stewart of Scotland and the legitimate heirs of his body 128 marks [instead of the previous rent of 160 marks] in the name of blanch ferme on the customary terminal dates. And the payment will revert to the crown in the absence of legitimate heirs. He also wills that the aforesaid land shall be free from captions, carriages, and other services , except for prayers.
