Document 2/156/1 (Theiner, no. 348)
- Description
- Boniface VIII writes to Master Thomas [of Dundee], called ‘de dono Dei’, elect of Ross in Scotland, noting that as the church of Ross, immediately belonging to the Roman church, is now vacant following the death of Robert, bishop of Ross, there were two [men] elected there, one was Master Thomas himself, and the other was Master Adam, precentor of Ross. Thomas gave his renunciation in the hands of H[ugh], bishop of Ostia and Velletri, whose chaplain he was, and Adam sent two canons to the apostolic see to ask for confirmation of his election but then resigned it into the hands of G[erard], bishop of Sabina. The pope, having appointed Thomas to the see, commands him to take charge of the diocese. Concurrent letters to the dean and chapter and to the king of Scotland
