Description: Robert, king of Scots, has given, granted and by this his charter established to Melrose Abbey, for his salvation and the souls of his ancestors and successors, all that land of Eskdale (DMF) which the monks held from Sir Nicholas of Graham and his ancestors, with all the pertinents given and granted by Sir Nicholas and his ancestors. Additionally, he grants and establishes to the monks all the land, freedoms and customs which Sir Nicholas and his ancestors reserved for themselves, to be held and had, in free, pure and perpetual alms. And after judgement given by the bailies of the abbot and convent, the king’s bailies, without contradiction, will carry out the execution of the thieves.
