Document 3/516/3 (Panmure Reg., ii, 82-3)
- Description
- Gilbert, lord of Ruthven in Strathearn, knight, son of Walter of Ruthven, in the presence of Sir Alexander (III), king of Scotland, in his court at Scone, has restored, resigned by rod and staff, and quitclaimed to William de Mortimer his cousin (cognato meo) and his heirs in perpetuity, all right that he or his heirs had by descent from Cecilia his grandmother, daughter of Sir William Maule in the land of Fowlis in Gowrie (Fowlis Easter, PER), or in half of it, or in part of it, for he has impleaded the said William de Mortimer by brieve of the lord king, for a certain sum of money which William gave him for his quitclaim. If it happens that he or his heirs act contrary to this quitclaim, he wills and permits a payment of £60 to be made to William or his heirs as a penalty. Moreover, Gilbert renounces all the charters and letters from the king or the apostolic seat [etc]. Moreover, he subjects himself to the jurisdiction of the bishops of St Andrews and Dunblane.
