Description
Alexander, steward of Scotland, gave, granted and by this his charter established to Melrose Abbey, for the salvation of himself, his wife and all his ancestors and successors, all right and claim which he and his heirs had or were able to have in the lands and pastures of Mauchline and ‘Karintabel’ (AYR) and the pertinents of the land which had been given and granted to them by his ancestors on each part of the river of AYR, without any re-annexation, for one annual pittance to be made by the convent on the day of Saint James, in free, pure and perpetual alms, unbound from all secular service, exaction and demand and from all vexation and impediment of him, his heirs, and their baillies, servants and men.
