Description
David de Lizars, lord of Gorton, has given and by this his present charter established in pure and perpetual alms to Newbattle Abbey a portion of his peatary [in Gorton, MLO] for digging and carting throughout his land according to his wish and use without any impediment, i.e., that portion from the south side of the peatary which he assigned to Abbot Constantine and the monks, coming themselves, in his own person with Nicholas, chaplain of Carrington, and Gregory, chaplain of Lasswade, and William his brother and his other men. He also grants the liberty to make a little house [domunculus] next to the peatery on his land for holding the peats, and pasture for their oxen who will carry the peats.
