Document 3/416/31 (Melr. Lib., no. 82)
- Description
- Helen de Moreville has given, granted and by this his charter established to Melrose Abbey, for the souls of her father, her mother, William, her brother, and Roland, her spouse, and for the salvation of herself, Alan, her son and heir, and all their successors, in free and pure alms, a certain part of her land in the territory of ‘Killebeccokestun’ (in Eddleston, PEB), by stated bounds. Additionally, she gave to the monks common pasture in the territory of the same villa for 700 sheep, 40 cows and one bull, with specified restrictions. She gave all this to the monks quit and unbound from all terrestrial service, custom and secular exaction and in exchange for the land which William de Moreville, her brother, distributed to them in Cunningham (AYR), namely the land which Simon de Beaumont held. The monks remitted to her and her heirs all claim which they had against them concerning the land and absolved the souls of William, her brother, and Roland, her spouse, concerning the claim.
