Donald Abbe of Brechin, has given, granted, and established by this his charter, to Arbroath Abbey, for the souls of Kings David and Malcolm, and Earl Henry, father of his lord King William, and of his lord himself, and for the welfare of his lady Ermengarde, queen of Scotland, and of Alexander their son, and of all their children, and for the soul of his father, Samson, and for the welfare of himself and his heirs after him, that davoch which is called ‘Balegillgrand’ (Bolshan, in Kinnell parish, ANG ), by its right bounds, in free, pure and perpetual alms, free and quit from all service and secular exaction. He and his heirs in perpetuity will acquit and respond for all services and ‘accidents’ (extraordinary services) which may pertain to the said land or the animals that are on it.
