- Walter son of Alan, steward of the king of Scotland, has given, granted and by this present charter established to Kelso Abbey the land which he had in the burgh of Roxburgh (ROX) and one acre of land in the town of Mow (ROX), namely, the land which was a matter of controversy between him and the church of Mow, and in the town of Renfrew (REN), the land which is near the toft which King David gave to the monks, and he establishes the toft which King David gave to them just as the charter of King David established, in perpetual and free alms, for the salvation of the souls of King David, King Malcolm and Earl Henry, and for the salvation of his lord, King William, and him and his ancestors and successors. He wanted the monks to hold and possess the aforesaid possessions from him and his heirs in free and perpetual alms.
