- An agreement is formed between Archibald, bishop of Caithness, and William, earl of Sutherland, narrating that a long controversy had been maintained between the bishop’s predecessors, Gilbert, William and Walter, on the one part, and William, of honourable memory, and William, his son, earls of Sutherland, regarding the castle of Skibo (SUT), and certain other lands, namely, 6 davochs of Skibo, and 6 davochs of Cyderhall with passage, and 2 ½ davochs of land at Migdale, Swordale, Creich, with the fishing of Bonar, of Cuthil, 2 davochs at Muimore, 2 davochs at Evelix, 3 davochs at Proncy, 1 davoch at Rearquhar, ¾ of Astel, half a davoch at Achosnich, 3 davochs at Torboll, 2 davochs at Kinnauld, and 4 davochs at Lairg. After many ordinances and stipulations, the lord earl granted to the church of Caithness the castle of Skibo with 6 davochs of land adjacent to it, 6 davochs at Cyderhall with passage, 2 ½ davochs of land at Migdale, Swordale, Creich with the fishery of Bonar, 2 davochs at Muimore with its pertinents, to be held by the church saving forinsec service to the king. The remaining lands will stay with the earl and his heir in perpetual heritage. The bishop, with the consent of the chapter, has given and granted to the earl and his heirs 1 davoch at Unes, Littleferry, valued at ½ mark, and the presentation of one chaplain at the altar of St James in Dornoch cathedral, with 5 marks annually for sustenance from the villa of Dornoch.
