Document 2/144/73 (Med. Papal Reps., App. IV, no. 12)
- Description
- Pope Alexander IV writes to the archdeacon of Brechin, stating that the prior and chapter of St Andrews had stated that both they and their predecessors have granted at ferme or for an annual payment lands, dues, possessions, manors and other goods belonging to that church to some clerks and laymen, to the great damage of the church, wherefore the prior and chapter beseeched the pope to aid them. He therefore commands the above to restore to the right and ownership of the church those goods which they shall find to have been alienated or disposed of by grants of this kind, compelling those who resist by ecclesiastical censure.
