Document 2/147/3 (Scone Lib., no. 119)

Description
Pope Gregory X writes to the abbot and convent of Scone, noting their petition that John Fraser of Glenholm, clerk, then patron of the church of St Cuthbert of Glenholm (PEB), Glasgow diocese, held the right of patronage of the church by hereditary right, and who granted that right to the monastery as contained in the public instrument concerning this. The pope thus establishes that what was made through the same John be held as ratified. The tenor of the instrument itself is as follows: in 1272, on 31 July , in the presence of Berard, notary, John Fraser of Glenholm, clerk, donated, gave and granted right of patronage of the church of Glenholm to Sir Nicholas, abbot, and the convent of Scone by these words: John Fraser of Glenholm, clerk of the diocese of Glasgow, gives and grants to Sir Nicholas, abbot, and the convent of Scone Abbey, the right of patronage which he and his predecessors had in the church of St Cuthbert of Glenholm. The present public instrument was made by the hand of Berard de Carsio, notary, and sealed with his seal.
