Pope Alexander III writes to Dean Salomon and the canons of Glasgow, and to all the clergy and people in the diocese of Glasgow, announcing that he has received and honoured as was fitting Ingram, formerly bishop-elect but now bishop, who came to him with letters from Salomon and the canons, King M[alcolm] and others. Despite strong objections from messengers of the archbishop of York who were present, in view of the urgency created by the episcopal vacancy at Glasgow and desiring both to please the king and to provide for that church, after consultation with his brethren, Alexander consecrated Ingram, who should be received as bishop and shown due obedience. If any refuse, Alexander will hold as ratified the sentence which Ingram would promulgate canonically against them.
