Document 2/123/5 (ESC, no. 44)

Description
Pope Calixtus II writes to Bishop John of Glasgow, recounting his consecration by Pope Paschal II at the request of the church of York, and commands him, on account of John’s reported subsequent refusal to make a profession to his metropolitan, the archbishop of York, not to be an ungrateful son to his mother, the church of York, in whose chapter he was chosen as her suffragan, and to make a profession to his metropolitan Thurstan. Otherwise Calixtus will ratify the sentence which Thurstan would issue against him.
