Document 2/123/1 (Haddan and Stubbs, Councils, ii, I, 193)

Description
Pope Calixtus II informs Bishops Ralph of Durham, Ralph of Orkney, John of Glasgow, and all the bishops in Scotland, suffragans of the church of York, that he has consecrated and bestowed the pallium on Thurstan, bishop-elect of that church, who has visited the pontiff. It did not seem reasonable to the pope’s brethren that the church of York should remain vacant any longer on account of the complaint of Archbishop Ralph of Canterbury, especially since Ralph has ignored frequent admonitions from the apostolic see to exhibit respect to Thurstan as their metropolitan.
