- Description
- Abbot Thomas and convent of Lindores for Laurence de Mowat, clerk; with consent have demitted at feuferme a full toft in villa of Dundee, which lies next land that vicar has in villa, which he has in same vicarage next to the church of St Clement the Martyr on western side, paying 1 mark annually at fair of Dundee. The assignees, or their heirs, of Laurence that shall hold the toft after Laurence's death are to pay annually 2 marks at fair of Dundee. In addition, Laurence shall find for Lindores a suitable house in toft where monks can have decent hospitality, for all exactions and demands. Laurence will not assign toft to any secular persons richer or more powerful than Lindores, neither a religious house nor religious men. Neither is Laurence to sell toft or alienate it in any way, unless permitted by licence and wish of abbey. To observe this, Laurence has taken an oath and further bound himself that if he does anything maliciously or fraudulently against this tenor, he is obliged to lose toft until full satisfaction is made.
