David, king of Scots, notifying that he lawfully granted on another occiasion to his faithful John Lyle knight the land of Letham (ELO) in the constabulary of Haddington in the sheriffdom of Edinburgh, which belonged to Malcolm of Fauside, son and heir of the late Roger of Fauside knight, touching the king due to the escheat of Malcolm for kidnapping a faithful woman, yet because John Lyle resigned the said land of Letham by staff and baton on the day of the making of this charter at Edinburgh in front of many nobles of the realm, the king wishing to make a special grace to the said Malcolm, he restores fully to their pristine state these lands; holding in feu and heritage, as freely as Roger his father held it.
