Robert, king of Scots, to his chamberlain of Scotland and his grieves and baillies of the burgh of Berwick upon Tweed and the collectors of hsi new custom there, notifying that he has granted Melrose abbey 100 pounds in perpetuity annually rendered on the two terms of Pentecost and Martinmas by equal portion from his burgh ferme [of Berwick] or from his new custom of the same vill, to provide a daily dish for each monk in the refectory. He commands them to make the payment every year to Melrose abbey or their agent, and to allocate the funds in their accounts.
