Biography
Duncan (Donnchad) was the son of Malcolm III (d.1093) and his first wife, Ingibiord (d.c.1067), likely daughter of Thorfinn, earl of Orkney (d.1064/65). He may have had a brother, Malcolm, though he did have his half-siblings from Malcolm III's marriage to Margaret. He married Etheldreda, daughter of Cospatric, earl of Northumbria (d.1073×75), and produced at least one child, William fitz Duncan (d.1151×54). Following the death of King Malcolm, Duncan's uncle, Donald III, became king but was driven out by his nephew soon afterwards. He was killed during a rising under Donald III and Edmund, son of Malcolm III, at Mondynes (KCD) on 12 November 1094. A.A.M.
