Margery Bruce, daughter of Robert Bruce
- Biography
- Margery was the daughter and only child of Robert I and his first wife Isabel, daughter of Donald, earl of Mar. Was captured by her father’s enemies in 1306, along with her step-mother Elizabeth de Burgh and two of Robert’s sisters, and thereafter imprisoned in England until 1314 when she, and the other Bruce detainees, were released in exchange for English nobles captured at Bannockburn. In 1315 she married Walter Stewart and produced, probably in 1316, a son, Robert Stewart, who would become king, as Robert II, in 1371. Margery seems to have died some time in 1317.
