Document 2/139/102 (Dunf. Reg., no. 257)
- Description
- Pope Honorius III writes to the abbot and convent of Dunfermline, noting that he understands that though the monastery had been augmented in the number of personae and that they should direct the improvement of the fabric [of the church] by a more structure, they are not sufficient for the sustenance of the brothers and the hospital. He thus has granted, especially for hospitality, the churches of Hailes (MLO) and Kinglassie (FIF), St Andrews diocese, granted and confirmed to Dunfermline by their true patron, with the assent of his chapter, [and] at the death or resignation of its personae, they may convert them for their own uses. The abbot may present vicars, who shall have the sustenance of the churches, to the diocesan bishop so that they may answer to him for spiritual and temporal dues.
