Description
David, king of Scots, has given Mariota Cheyne, wife of the late John Douglas, half the barony of Strabrock (WLO) and a quarter part of the earldom of Caithness in the sheriffdom of Inverness, both of which Mariota resigned by staff and baton at Holyrood abbey in the presence of diverse nobles and barons of the kingdom, on 15 May AD 1366; holding by Mariota and the heirs of her and John Douglas, be they male or female, failing which, by the legitimate heirs of Mariota; in feu and heritage, as freely as Mariota held them before, for service owed and wont.
