Document 1/54/85 (RMS, i, App. 1., no. 118)

Description
David, king of Scots, noting that his predecessors Malcolm, Alexander, and David, kings of Scots, had given and by their charters confirmed to Restenneth Priory the teinds of all the fruits of his thanages and demesne lands in pennies as well as grain, and the teinds of wards, reliefs, fines and escheats within the sheriffdom of Forfar, as the charters of Malcolm, Alexander and David attest, except the teind of the great custom called 'Mautoll' in the burgh of Dundee, in which they recognise they do not have any right. King David II confirms these rights and in augmentation of this, out of special affection, and so that the bones of his brother-germane John should be interred at the priory, he gives them 20 marks from the great custom of Dundee by the hand of his chamberlain of Scotland on the Nativity of St John the Baptist and on Christmas, holding in free, pure and perpetual alms, as freely as any alms given as those given by his predecessors the kings of Scotland.
