Document 5/3/0 (CDS, iii, no. 201)
- Description
- The writer says the earl of Cornwall came from Perth the other day with Sir Henry de Beaumont and scarcely any attendants on some business with the king. The earl has undertaken to keep the country beyond Forth till three weeks after Easter, and left Berwick for Perth on the eve of the Annunciation last. Before he left, Sir Henry de Beaumont had this answer regarding the constableship of Scotland: “Sir Henry, you have claimed the constableship as the right of Alice, your wife, cousin and one of the heirs of the late Sir John, earl of Buchan. The king is not sufficiently advised of his right to give you a final reply, but commits the office to you during pleasure, to be given up when it pleases him to decide the right.” Concludes with news of the English magnates.
