Document 3/632/35 B (Stevenson, Docs., ii, no. 419)
- Description
- Adam the Armourer and Gunnore his wife write to their lord the king and his council that whereas the king had given and granted, and by his charter established, to the said Gunnore a messuage with pertinents in the villa of Berwick, paying to them and their heirs 20s. yearly, there came the persona of Ford and Walter of Goswick, baillie of Berwick, and demanded of her 4 marks yearly, whereas she ought to be quit by the charter of their lord the king for 20s. And the said persona and Walter distrained her from day to day for the said 4 marks, so that she could not dwell in the said tenement. And upon this grievance the said Gunnore came into this court to seek remedy, and thereupon she had a writ to the persons aforesaid to cease from their demand, so that there should be no further distraint by reason of the said demand, and they did not cease to do so, but have distrained her grievously. And thereof she prays remedy, that she may hold the tenement in peace, according to the points of the charter of their lord the king.
