Document 3/632/32 (Stevenson, Docs., i, no. 109)
- Description
- The mayor and commune of Berwick write to Sir Edward, king of England, lord of Ireland and duke of Aquitaine, noting they have received his letters under his seal which he sent to them by their messengers. According to the tenor of his letters, they presented themselves at Birgham before the bishop of Carlisle and the noblemen the earls of Lincoln and Warenne, according to the laws and customs of the marches; the said bishop and nobles did not wish to proceed with their business, asserting not to have special mandate or warrant concerning this. After the departure of their messengers which they sent to him, after the parliament of Birgham, lord Antony, bishop of Durham, and his men, bothered the addressors in many different ways. Wherefore they ask and require the king that justice is provided.
