- Description
- John, earl of Atholl, prays the king for sasine of his land of 'Lesnes' (in England) in terms of the inquest made by the escheator, as the king promised him his heritage both in England and Scotland
Again the said earl shows the king that whereas he was […] by the king and council to take from the town of Aberdeen, and the farms of Aboyne, Coull and Montblary (BNF), and of Boharm, which amount to 1200 marks, he has received nothing but £540 […] which he has spent in repairing the castles of Aberdeen and Aboyne and […] [retaining forces for one and other] to the number of 20 men-at-arms, and 40 sergeants on foot, […] and was commanded by the king to deliver the land of Mortleye to the earl of Buchan, the land of Coull to the countess of Fife, and Sir Aymer de Valence holds the land of Boharm […] he prays that the king would please to take some order regarding his sustenance under the said assignment.
Again the said earl shows the king that when he holds pleas of justice and ‘bygames entrent’ […] the bishop of Aberdeen’s clerks relieve and demand the ‘bygamete’ out of the king’s court, and say its cognisance belongs to them in the court of Christianity, and so they will have delivery; etc.
