The king notes that by his special grace he has given and granted for himself and his heirs to Uhtred le Harper a messuage with pertinents in the villa of Berwick-upon-Tweed in the street called Suteresgate, and one perch of land in the same villa in the street called Fyskeresgate, which messuage and land Uhtred held on the day the king conquered that town against John Balliol, formerly king of Scotland, by the forfeiture of the same John. To have of the king and his heirs in perpetuity, making service which was owed to John, then king of Scotland before the said conquest.
John de Warenne, earl of Surrey, guardian, etc., is commanded to liberate the said messuage and land to Uchtred to have and hold in the said form.
