Document 2/106/5 (Stevenson, Docs., ii, 98n)

Description
To their lord the king and his council pray the prior and brethren of the hospital of St John of Jerusalem in England and in Scotland for their English brethren in Scotland, that whereas it is a great security to the English residents in Scotland to have access to a castle or fortress near them, in case of accidents, he would be pleased to grant them the privilege of access into his castle of Linlithgow which is only two leagues from Torphichen, for their safety when needed. And that he would send a letter to this effect, if he please, to his constable of Linlithgow.
