- Description
- William Sinclair, the knight, states that he is being held and bound to the abbot and convent of Newbattle for the land of Balvormie (Linlithgow parish, WLO), which they gave to him for one mark annually. The marks is to be rendered at the gate of the monastery, viz.: six shillings and eight pennies during the eight days of Pentecost, and six shillings and eight pennies during the octaves of St Martin in winter. Penalties are stipulated for failure to comply, saving that William will be quit from the payment of the said annual mark, until what time Alexander de Purdouin and his heirs, to whom he gave the land of Balvormie by the consent of the Abbot and Convent, may have paid the mark to the abbot and convent for the said land.
