King Edward I of England states that he has appointed Alexander, earl of Menteith, to take, on behalf of the King, the castles, fortalices, islands, lands, and tenements belonging to Alexander of Argyll, and also those belonging to John, eldest son of the said Alexander, and to have the keeping of them during the King's pleasure, the surplus over after keeping the former to go to the said Alexander, and the surplus of the latter to go to the King's exchequer at Berwick.
