The king [Edward I] writes to the sheriff of Fife noting that he has commanded that the lands, tenements, goods and chattels of William Douglas within the kingdom of Scotland should be taken into his hand and kept until he orders otherwise, yet desiring to do a special grace to the said William, he instructs the sheriff to cause to be restored to the said William the aforesaid lands and tenements, goods and chattels, taking in to the king’s hands, along with the receipts thereof, saving the king’s expenses and taxes imposed on them.
