Description
Edward, king of England, lord of Ireland, duke of Aquitaine and overlord of Scotland, addressed Alexander de Balliol, his chamberlain of Scotland, and states that he entrusted to his clerk, Master Alan of Dumfries, the office of the chancellor of Scotland, with everything pertaining to that office, and assigned the seal of the same kingdom to control, to be guarded by the same in the manner in which the former bishop of Caithness, chancellor of the same kingdom, had the office and seal by his commission. He commands and orders Alexander that he sure make sure to render to Master Alan, or his attorney, the bearer of the present letter, one mark daily for his expenses, in accordance with the fact that the bishop of Caithness used to receive one mark daily, until what time he may have another mandate from him.
