Document 2/96/4 (CDS, ii, no. 969)

Description
Brother William, abbot of Jedburgh writes to the king asking credence for Sir Adam of Lanchester, their canon, and what he will show him on his behalf. [Endorsement: Ingram of Cologne, for whom the king’s clemency entreated, twice attempted to kindle fire in the monastery and stole two silk cloths, a Bible, a legend of the Saints, two chalices and other church ornaments. And when the abbot and brethren interrogated him as to the culprit, confessed his deeds; and being unwilling to undergo the correction of the order, they charitably at his request gave him letter dismissory and expelled him from the house.]
