Document 2/156/15 (Theiner, no. 364)
- Description
- Boniface VIII writes to David, bishop of Moray, noting how the church of Moray was without a pastor since the death of Archibald, bishop of Moray, and how the dean and chapter called for an election in which thirteen canons voted for David, then a canon himself, four for the dean, one for John, the archdeacon, and three for Henry, the chancellor. The dean, by the consent of the chapter, then chose David, and the chapter sent Master James and Roger, canons, to the pope to ask him to confirm the election. The election being found defective, David resigned it in the pope’s presence, though the pope appointed him bishop afterwards and M[atthew], bishop of Porto consecrated him. Concurrent letters to the chapter of Moray, and to the clergy of the diocese.
