- AD 1296, at Aberdeen, on 19 July, there being present the bishop of Durham, the lords Brian fitz Alan, Robert of Hilton, Walter of Huntercombe, and Ralph son of William, knights, with many others, and the notary, Henry, bishop of Aberdeen, the lord John Fleming and the lord William of Moray, knights, with the lord Walter called ‘Blackwater’, dean of the church of Aberdeen, coming into the trust and obedience of the king of England, annulled the alliances, contracts, agreements, and pacts that were at any time entered into with the king of the French against the king of England in their name; and having taken the holy gospels and kissed them, they performed fealty to the lord king of England; and upon their fealty performed in this way, they made their letters patent, sealed with their pendant seals.
