Document 3/719/1 (Glas. Reg., no. 253)
- Description
- John, lord of Dunsyre, son of Adam of Dunsyre, states that he and his successors are to be held and obligated to Alan of Denumme and his heirs to hold and observe all the donations, and every grant and agreement, specified in his charters. The donations, grants and agreements related to the following: the land of Le Hyllis (‘The Hills’), the parcel of land laying above the Medwin, the commons [which are] to be held by Alan in John’s tenement of Dunsyre (LAN), the wood for building [granted] for his sole use in perpetuity, the stone [which is] to be carved and to be taken, and the water of Medwin1 [which is] to be directed to Alan’s mill in accordance with Alan’s will, just as the charter Alan held from John carries and testifies in it. John made these conveyances in return for a certain sum of money which Alan rendered to John in his great need, and John states that if it happens that, God forbid, he or his heirs or assignees go against the aforesaid, John obliges himself and his heirs and assignees to render to Alan, or his heirs or assignees, twenty pounds of sterling as a penalty with certain specifications.
