Document 2/7/93 (Glas. Reg., no. 247)
- Description
- Robert, bishop of Glasgow, states since he made an ordinance, by the consent of two parties, viz.: the dean and chapter of Glasgow on the one hand, and Sir William of Moray, lord of Bothwell on the other, concerning controversy between them in relation to the church of Smailholm (BWK), ten marks in certain teinds from the parish church of Walston (LAN), and three acres of land belonging to the church were set aside to be assigned to the dean and chapter by name of the rectory of the church. The bishop now assigns to the dean and chapter all of the garbal teinds, as much from the villa of Elgirig (prob. Elsrickle, Walston parish), as those from the dominion of Sir William of Walston, for the twenty marks, which the bishop valued following common estimation, for the augmentation of their community in perpetuity, free and quit from all burdens, without any opposition to be received. And the bishop assigns to the dean and chapter the three acres of land, which is adjacent to the dominion of Sir William, for their use, and it is to be held and had, free and quit from all burdens. The remaining fruits of the church, as much major as minor, should be granted and converted for the use of the vicar serving in the church, and all the burdens placed on the church. Concerning this, the bishop wants the presentation of the vicar to pertain to Sir William. The bishop also acted to introduce corporal possession of the teinds and acres to the procurator of the dean and chapter in their name.
