Document 2/154/5 (Newb. Reg., no. 249)

Description
Pope Nicholas [IV] addresses the abbot and convent of Newbattle and states that he was presented with their petition stating that the noble woman, Ellen called le Zuche, for her own salvation, thinking and desiring for the heavens and the transitory, conveyed the right of patronage which was pertaining to the church of Heriot (MLO) to them and their monastery. Afterwards, William, bishop of St Andrews, established the donation, as is contained in his letters patent. The pope, by apostolic authority, establishes and strengthens the donation by the present charter.
