- John son of Waltheof, the miller, William, the painter, and the other provosts and citizens of Glasgow brought together in the pleas of the burgh of Glasgow which is being held in 1295, state that Richard Browning, son of the late William Glay, after a third appearance in three pleas of the burgh, has sold, in his great need, to the abbot and convent of Newbattle his land in the villa of Glasgow, with the houses constructed therein, viz.: which lie between the land of William Scloyder and the land of John, son of the late William Bradhy, on Fishermans’ Road, with all right pertaining to, or being owed to pertain to, the land and houses, and sasine of the land, for a certain sum of money fully rendered to him. Richard promises warrandice, and he swore, touching the holy gospels, that he will not come against the aforesaid at anytime. Penalties are stipulated for failure to comply, and he renounces all legal remedy. This sale and giving of saisine was made in the presence of John son of Waltheof, son of the miller, along with the provosts of the villa, and also Philip called Rocchet, and John son of Juet, sergeands of the villa.
