Document 3/539/3 (Melr. Lib., no. 350)

Description
Thomas de Somerville, the knight, lord of Linton, states that since the abbot and monks of Melrose were holding from him a certain toft within the villa of Berwick-upon-Tweed (BWK) in [return for] six shillings and eight pennies of sterling, and one pound of pepper, Thomas relaxed and quitclaimed in perpetuity the said six shillings and eight pennies to the monks as his pure alms, reserving to himself and his heirs the pound of pepper which he wants to be annually rendered to him and his heirs during the fair of Roxburgh. He promises warrandice.
