Description
Pope Nicholas IV addresses the abbot and convent of Balmerino Abbey and states that some clerks and laymen, because of certain crooked customs, presume to pledge, invade and detain some animals and goods of the monks and lay-brothers of Balmerino. The pope, wishing to provide for their peace and quiet, [and] out of fatherly concern, inhibits, by the authority of the present [charter], lest on the occasion of the said customs these individuals should presume to inflict annoyance, and additionally to occupy, to pledge, to invade, or to detain, in whatever way, the monks’ goods or rights.
