In the same place, year [1296] and Indiction [9th], on the 25th day of the the month of June, being present the noble men, the lords Walter de Beauchamp, John Merk, Thomas of Bicknor, knights, with many others, both knights and lesser members of the king's household, and in the presence of the Notary written below, the lord John of Moncreiffe, knight, freely attaining the trust and good will of the king of England, annulled any alliances, contracts, agreements, or pacts ever entered into in his name with the king of the French against the king of England, and expressly renounced them; and having touched and kissed the most holy gospels, he performed fealty to the said king of England, and in respect of his fealty, he drew up his letters sealed with his pendant seal.
