In the same year [1296], indiction [9th], month [June], day [17th] and place [Stirling], with the aforementioned witnesses present, and the undersigned Notary, William of Gardyne attaining the trust and goodwill of the king of England of his own free will, annulled any alliances, contracts, agreements and pacts ever entered into in his name with the king of the French against the king of England, and expressly renounced them; and having touched and kissed the holy gospels, he performed fealty to the king of England; and in respect of his fealty he made letters patent sealed with his own pendant seal.
